WB Police summons two NIA officers in connection with investigation into Bhupatinagar attack

The West Bengal Police issued summons on Tuesday to two National Investigation Agency (NIA) officers regarding the recent attack on NIA personnel in Bhupatinagar, Purba Medinipur district. The summon notice requires both officers, one of whom filed the complaint and the other who was injured in the attack, to appear before the police as witnesses for the ongoing investigation. Additionally, the injured officer has been requested to bring his medical records and the allegedly attacked vehicle for forensic analysis.

Earlier, on April 6, a woman filed an FIR against the NIA personnel at Bhupatinagar police station, accusing them of forcibly entering her house, assaulting her husband, verbally abusing her, and physically attacking her when she intervened. The FIR also alleges the outrage of her modesty by the NIA and CRPF personnel. The FIR has been registered under various sections of the Indian Penal Code.

In response to the attack on the NIA team, Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee criticized the agency for not informing the state government beforehand and questioned the timing and necessity of the raid conducted at night. She accused the NIA of arresting people before elections to favor a particular political party. The NIA, however, denied any unlawful actions and stated that its actions were part of a lawful investigation into a bomb fabrication case in Naruabila village, Purba Medinipur district, initiated on the orders of the Calcutta High Court.
