The National capital Delhi continued to be battered by heavy rain. Despite bringing relief from the heatwave, common people and vehicle owners are facing the brunt of waterlogging and traffic jams.
The condition continues to deteriorate, as several vehicles got submerged in various parts of the city. In addition, important routes are also blocked, as the incessant rainfall uprooted the trees overnight.
It’s not like only vehicle owners are facing the problem, commuters are also facing the brunt of waterlogging, as their movement has come to a standstill. As a result, many commuters are late for their work or colleges etc.
Meanwhile, the flight operations in IGI airport terminal 1 have been suspended, following the collapse of termina’s roof amid heavy rain, leaving two people injured and one dead.
So far, sixteen departure flights and twelve arrival flights have been cancelled, as Delhi witnessed 150 mm of rainfall between 2.30 am to 5.30 am. Thus, recording one of the wettest spells of the year.
As for the traffic, Delhi traffic police have asked commuters and travellers to plan their journey, accordingly, owing to incidents of waterlogging in several parts of the city.
Areas like Tilak Bridge Road, Teen Murti Marg, Moolchand, Minto Road, Anand Vihar, Mehrauli Badarpur Road, Mandawali, Bhikaji Cama Place, Madhu Vihar, Pragati Maidan, Munirka, Dhaula Kuan, Moti Bagh, ITO are reportedly facing waterlogging. Even far-off areas like Noida aren’t spared of this issue.
According to weather department, the region of Delhi-NCR will continue to receive rain with thunderstorms and winds with a speed of 20-40 km/h in the upcoming two hours. In addition, the orange alert has been issued for the city till June 29.
