Residents of Greater Noida West, located about 50 kilometers from Delhi, continue to struggle with elevator malfunctions despite the introduction of a new law by the Uttar Pradesh government aimed at improving lift maintenance.

The latest incident occurred last night at Greenarch Society, where a boy became trapped in an lift for nearly an hour. The residential complex’s technical staff had to use an iron rod to force the elevator doors open and rescue him.
Elevator malfunctions have become a frequent issue in Noida and its surrounding areas. In a similar incident in May, a man was trapped in a lift for almost 30 minutes at La Residentia in Greater Noida. A video captured two individuals prying the elevator doors open and inserting a stick to allow air to flow, as the man inside was struggling to breathe.
Earlier that same week, another incident occurred at the Paras Tierea residential complex in Noida Sector 137, where the brakes of a lift failed, causing it to crash into the roof of the top floor. Three people inside the elevator were injured.
In response to the growing number of elevator-related incidents, the Uttar Pradesh government introduced a new law earlier this year. The law mandates that building authorities equip elevators with rescue devices, CCTV cameras, and emergency alarms to ensure safety. However, despite these legal measures, incidents of elevator malfunctions continue to surface in Noida, raising concerns about the effectiveness of enforcement and maintenance practices in the region.
