Wannabe Rapper Booked For Robbing Cab Driver At Gunpoint In Delhi

The Delhi Police arrested Aryan Rajvansh, a former engineer turned rapper from Faizabad near Ayodhya, Uttar Pradesh, on Monday for allegedly assaulting and robbing a cab driver at gunpoint in Southeast Delhi’s Amar Colony area. According to Deputy Commissioner of Police (Southeast) Rajesh Deo, the incident took place near the Indian Oil petrol pump in Shriniwas Puri during the early hours of Monday morning.

Rajvansh had hired Ola cab driver Kulbhushan Sharma from Dwarka Mor for a trip to the interstate bus terminal at Kashmere Gate. He subsequently threatened Sharma with a gun, forced him to change course, and robbed his mobile phone. Sharma attempted to escape at the petrol pump in Shriniwas Puri, where Rajvansh shot at him before fleeing the scene.

The police responded to a control room call about the shooting at approximately 1:33 am and transported Sharma to the AIIMS trauma center. A case was registered under sections 394 (voluntarily causing hurt in committing robbery) and 397 (robbery or dacoity with an attempt to cause death or grievous hurt) of the Indian Penal Code, along with relevant provisions of the Arms Act.

Following an investigation involving call records, social media images, and cab booking details, Rajvansh was identified as the suspect. Police teams were deployed to both Kashmere Gate and Ayodhya, leading to Rajvansh’s arrest at his residence in Faizabad. During interrogation, he admitted to planning the robbery due to financial difficulties arising from his unsuccessful career as a rapper after graduating with a BTech from Sri Ishwar College of Engineering in Coimbatore in 2022.

Rajvansh explained that he had traveled to Delhi to retrieve belongings from a friend’s house in Dwarka Mor before hailing the cab. His intention was to rob the driver en route, although the plan was disrupted when the vehicle required refueling at the petrol pump.
