Residents of Kithana village in Jhunjhunu, Rajasthan—Vice President Jagdeep Dhankhar’s hometown—reacted with shock and sadness after learning of his sudden resignation from the post.

His relative, Harendra Dhankhar, told ANI that the news deeply shocked the village. He acknowledged that Dhankhar had undergone angioplasty in March and had faced health issues during a recent visit to Uttarakhand.

Harendra highlighted that Dhankhar had always supported the village, especially by providing financial help to schools and cowsheds. “When he became the Vice President in 2022, the village celebrated the achievement of a farmer’s son reaching such a high post. He has always contributed to local welfare,” Harendra said. He added that people across the village and nearby areas are now praying for Dhankhar’s recovery.

Kithana’s Sarpanch, Subhita Dhankar, echoed the sentiments and said, “We hope he gets well soon and reaches even greater heights. His health is most important.”

Another villager, Naresh, shared that he received the news via WhatsApp around 9:30 pm. “Everyone in the village was stunned. This was painful news for all of Rajasthan. His term should have been completed. We’re praying for his health at the Balaji Temple, where he always prays during visits.”

Earlier in the day, BJP MP Ghanshyam Tiwari, while presiding over the Rajya Sabha, announced that President Droupadi Murmu had accepted Dhankhar’s resignation under Article 67A of the Constitution. The Ministry of Home Affairs issued the official notification confirming the resignation with immediate effect.
