Veteran actor Satish Shah, best known for his roles in Sarabhai vs Sarabhai and Jaane Bhi Do Yaaro, passed away on October 25 in Mumbai. He was 74. The actor had been suffering from kidney-related complications and had recently undergone a transplant.

Satish Shah Dies at 74 in Mumbai

According to reports, Satish Shah breathed his last at around 2:30 pm at Hinduja Hospital in Mumbai. His manager confirmed that the actor’s body is currently at the hospital and will be taken to his Bandra residence before the funeral, which is scheduled for Sunday.

Filmmaker Ashoke Pandit confirmed the news, “With a heavy heart, I want to say that our friend and a very good actor, Satish Shah, died around 2:30 pm today due to kidney failure. His health deteriorated while he was at home, and he was taken to the hospital immediately. Sadly, he couldn’t survive. His cremation will take place today. It’s a very big loss for the industry.”

Legendary Career Spanning Over Four Decades

Satish Shah’s acting career spanned more than 40 years, during which he became one of the most beloved faces in Indian cinema and television. He rose to fame with the 1983 cult classic Jaane Bhi Do Yaaro, where he delivered one of Bollywood’s most memorable comic performances.

He appeared in several blockbuster films, including Hum Saath-Saath Hain, Main Hoon Na, Kal Ho Naa Ho, Dilwale Dulhania Le Jayenge, Kabhi Haan Kabhi Naa, and Om Shanti Om. Known for his impeccable timing and versatility, Satish Shah seamlessly balanced both comedy and emotional roles.

Iconic Television Roles

On television, Satish Shah became a household name for his portrayal of Indravadan Sarabhai in the iconic sitcom Sarabhai vs Sarabhai. His sarcastic yet lovable character made the show one of the most cherished Indian comedies of all time.

He also starred in Yeh Jo Hai Zindagi (1984), another hit sitcom that remains a classic in Indian TV history. His effortless comic delivery and natural charm made him one of the most respected actors in both film and television.

Bollywood Mourns the Loss

Tributes have poured in from across the film industry. Filmmaker Ashoke Pandit posted on Instagram, “Sad and shocked to inform you that our dear friend and a great actor Satish Shah has passed away a few hours ago due to kidney failure… A great loss to our industry. Om Shanti.”

Veteran comedian Johny Lever expressed grief, writing, “Feeling extremely sad to share that we’ve lost a great artist & my dearest friend of over 40 years. It’s hard to believe—I had spoken to him just two days ago. Satish Bhai, you will truly be missed. Your immense contribution to film and television will never be forgotten.”

CINTAA (Cine & TV Artistes’ Association) also paid tribute, posting, “CINTAA expresses its condolences on the demise of Satish Shah ji (member since 1985).”

Satish Shah is survived by his wife, designer Madhu Shah. His last screen appearance was in the Sarabhai vs Sarabhai reboot in 2017. His death marks the end of an era for Indian entertainment.
