
Veteran actor Satish Shah, famed for Sarabhai vs Sarabhai and Jaane Bhi Do Yaaro, dies at 74.
Veteran actor Satish Shah, known for his iconic roles in Sarabhai vs Sarabhai and Jaane Bhi Do Yaaro, passed away on October 25 at the age of 74 due to kidney failure. The hospital revealed that he was found unresponsive at his residence, and despite CPR and all medical efforts, he could not be revived.
P.D. Hinduja Hospital & Medical Research Centre in Mumbai issued a statement shortly after the actor’s death. The press note said:
“We are deeply saddened by the passing of veteran actor Mr Satish Shah. Earlier today, the hospital received an emergency call regarding Mr Shah’s health. An ambulance with a medical team was immediately sent to his residence, where he was found to be unresponsive. CPR was started in the ambulance itself and continued on arrival at P. D. Hinduja Hospital & Medical Research Centre. Despite the best efforts of our medical team, Mr Shah could not be revived.”
The hospital added, “Mr Shah was a beloved artist whose remarkable contribution to Indian cinema and television will always be remembered. We extend our heartfelt condolences to his family, friends and admirers during this difficult time.”
Satish Shah had been unwell for the past few months, according to Sarabhai vs Sarabhai creator JD Majethia. He had undergone a kidney transplant but later developed an infection, leading to his sudden demise.
Born in 1951 into a Gujarati family, Satish Shah started acting in the 1970s. He gained nationwide recognition in 1984 with the sitcom Yeh Jo Hai Zindagi, where he portrayed 55 different characters, leaving a lasting impression on audiences.
He became a household name with Sarabhai vs Sarabhai, where his portrayal of Indravadan Sarabhai is still cherished by fans. He also won hearts with his role as a corpse in the cult comedy Jaane Bhi Do Yaaro, one of his most iconic film performances.
