Chaos erupted in Mirghat, Dashashwamedh police station area of Varanasi on Sunday as unidentified assailants opened fire. The incident happened near highly sensitive Kashi Vishwanath Temple precincts and resulted in injuries to three individuals, including a child. A woman sustained gunshot wounds. According to sources, the assailants had come intending to attack Samajwadi Party leader Vijay Yadav.
According to Navbharat Times, people present there managed to apprehend one assailant, including one carrying a pistol. Approximately three dozen assailants came and made their way into the house and proceeded to assault it. When the local people began to gather, the assailants began firing and fled. Meanwhile, there has also been questioning regarding the safety of the police due to a public bullet fire near the Shri Kashi Vishwanath Dham High-Security Zone.
In response to the incident, several officials, including the joint CP, are carrying out an investigation at the location. According to sources, the assailants assaulted the residence and subsequently caused an uproar with gunfire and shooting at a woman and a seven-year-old child. The woman is identified as the wife of Vijay Yadav, who is currently undergoing an investigation for many charges.
