The Union Cabinet has granted approval to the Pradhan Mantri Janjati Adivasi Nyaya Maha Abhiyan, a scheme focused on 11 critical interventions for Particularly Vulnerable Tribal Groups, announced Minister Anurag Thakur on Wednesday.
Prime Minister Narendra Modi unveiled the scheme on Janjatiya Gaurav Diwas in Jharkhand’s Khunti. The scheme, aiming to provide essential amenities like permanent housing, piped water supply, and roads, received Cabinet approval on Tuesday night. The total outlay for the Pradhan Mantri Janjati Adivasi Nyaya Maha Abhiyan (PM-JANMAN) is set at Rs 24,104 crore, with the central share at Rs 15,336 crore and states contributing Rs 8,768 crore.
Over 28.16 lakh tribal individuals from 220 districts in 18 states and one Union Territory are expected to benefit, focusing on those who haven’t previously availed of government schemes. The beneficiaries, identified from 75 tribal communities with scattered habitation, will receive benefits under 11 main interventions, including housing, roads, clean water, electricity, mobile dispensaries, and mobile towers.
The scheme also aims to provide assured livelihood opportunities, targeting 4.90 lakh pucca homes, 8,000 kilometers of roads, piped water supply for all Particularly Vulnerable Tribal Group habitations, community water supply in 2,500 villages, a thousand mobile medical units, 500 hostels, and vocational and skilling centers in 60 Aspirational PVTG blocks.
The scheme will also encompass the construction of 2,500 Anganwadi centers (at a cost of Rs 12 lakh each), multipurpose centers (at Rs 60 lakh each), the provision of last-mile electricity connections for 57,000 households, a 0.3 KW solar off-grid system, solar street lighting, and the installation of mobile towers in 3,000 villages.
