Philanthropy must play a central role in addressing global inequality and fostering a more humane world order, speakers said during a session at the NXT Summit 2026 at Bharat Mandapam in New Delhi on Thursday.
In a conversation with UK House of Lords member Lord Ross Kempsell, marketing and branding expert Suhel Seth highlighted the growing importance of philanthropy and global cooperation in shaping sustainable impact.
The session focused on the role of giving back in an increasingly unequal world and India’s emerging position in the global order.
Seth noted that India’s tradition of charity and social responsibility dates back thousands of years, stressing that modern societies must encourage greater examples of philanthropy and compassion.
“Nations are not just about GDP; they are about gross domestic compassion,” he said, emphasising that inclusive growth and social responsibility are essential for a stronger society.
Lord Kempsell praised India’s rapid economic rise, noting that the country has moved from the world’s 11th-largest economy to the third-largest within a decade and is expected to continue growing rapidly. He also underscored the strengthening ties between the United Kingdom and India, citing the recent free trade agreement as a major milestone that is expected to boost economic cooperation and trade between the two countries.
Highlighting the importance of global partnerships, Kempsell said technological advancements, including artificial intelligence and robotics, are transforming economies and societies, making international collaboration more critical than ever. He added that India is likely to play a decisive role in shaping global developments, particularly across the Indo-Pacific region and beyond.
Calling for deeper engagement, Kempsell said the UK is keen to expand economic, strategic and technological cooperation with India. “The British are back and keen to do business,” he remarked, inviting Indian businesses to strengthen partnerships with the UK.
The discussion also touched upon India’s growing global confidence and leadership, with Seth describing the country as an aspirational society working towards a more inclusive and humane world order.
The session formed part of the first day of the NXT Summit 2026, which has brought together global leaders, policymakers, entrepreneurs and thinkers to deliberate on emerging geopolitical, technological and economic challenges.
