Chamba district of Himachal Pradesh has been rocked by two back-to-back earthquakes on Wednesday morning. The first quake was recorded at 3:27 a.m., measured at 3.3 on the Richter scale at a depth of 20 kilometres. The second one was stronger at a 4.0 magnitude, recorded at 4:39 am with a depth of 10 kilometres.
The National entre of Seismology (NCS) posted on X, “EQ of M: 4.0, On: 20/08/2025 04:39:45 IST, Lat: 32.71 N, Long: 76.11 E, Depth: 10 Km, Location: Chamba, Himachal Pradesh.”
NCS further noted, “EQ of M: 3.3, On: 20/08/2025 03:27:09 IST, Lat: 32.87 N, Long: 76.09 E, Depth: 20 Km, Location: Chamba, Himachal Pradesh.”

Cloudburst in Kullu
Heavy rains led to a cloudburst in Lagghati, Kullu district. The cloudburst caused severe damage to the infrastructure. Deputy Commissioner Torul S. Ravish stated that the road near Bholenath bridge has faced damages and the bridge at Hanuman Bag has been washed away. A cremation ground has also been damaged. He also added that two vegetable shops, a house, and the Ropdi Bhutti Bridge has been hit by the tragedy.

Monsoon Havoc Across Himachal Pradesh
The monsoon in Himachal Pradesh has left a tail of destruction. The Himachal Pradesh State Disaster Management Authority (HPSDMA) confirmed that the death toll has jumped to 276 since June 20.
The state has been struck by the destruction of property and agriculture. At least 1,104 homes, 37 shops and factories, 2,416 cowsheds, and 27,552 livestock and poultry have been struck by the severe floods and landslides, reportedly.
