Even as the political crisis in Tamil Nadu. Depend on Thursday, TVK chief Vijay once again called in Governor Rajendra Vishwanath Arlekar turned dissapointing again as he said that the “majority required to form the government has not been established”.
Following this TVK once again sent it’s leaders to CPIM and other parties to garner support in the southern state.
TVK, which made its poll debut this year assembly polls has been struggling to form government in the state even after securing a stunning victory, as it secured 108 seats but fell short of majority by just 10 seats.
The Congress has already offered support to the actor-turned politician’s party, but it still requires at least five more seats to form majority government with 118 MLAs in the assembly.
“Thiru Rajendra Vishwanath Arlekar, Governor of Tamil Nadu, has invited Thiru C Joseph Vijay, President, Tamilaga Vettri Kazhagam, today (7.5.2026) to Lok Bhavan, Chennai,” the statement said from the governor’s office.
“During the meeting, the Governor explained that the requisite majority support in the Tamil Nadu Legislative Assembly, essential for forming the Government, has not been established,” it added.
Meanwhile, sources said that the Governor insisted that Vijay submit proof of support from 118 MLAs to form the government. During the discussions with Vijay, the Governor reportedly cited past incidents where courts have censured governors for failing to ascertain whether the party claiming stake to form the government enjoys a majority, to explain his decision, even as the TVK chief said he was ready to face the floor test.
Meanwhile, DMK alliance partners– VCK and the Left parties (CPziM and CPI) are set to meet DMK president M K Stalin to discuss whether to extend support to Vijay in government formation.
Stalin had already gone on record to state that Vijay should be allowed to form the government.
The VCK, CPI and MNM have also voiced support for Vijay and urged the Governor to invite him to form the government.
Some VCK leaders have come out urging party chief Thol Thirumavalavan to join the TVK government, citing difficulties faced in the DMK-led alliance before the Assembly elections.
Earlier in the day, even CPI state secretary M Veerapandian and VCK president Thirumavalavan took exception to the Governor’s delay, calling it unconstitutional and an attempt to create confusion.
