A devastating accident on National Highway 48 near Nelamangala, Bengaluru, on Saturday, claimed the lives of six members of a family. The accident occurred when a container truck overturned, crushing their Volvo SUV and killing everyone inside. This tragedy has reignited concerns over road safety and the challenges posed by reckless driving on Indian roads.

How Did the Accident Happen?

According to a preliminary police investigation, the accident was caused by an Eicher truck carrying aluminum pillars. While traveling at high speed, the truck driver lost control while attempting to avoid a collision with another vehicle ahead. The truck crossed the median, overturned, and crushed a Volvo SUV traveling in the opposite direction towards Tumakuru.

The truck also collided with a tempo, but the damage to the tempo was minimal. The incident, captured on a nearby CCTV camera, is under investigation.

The deceased were identified as:

• Chandrayagappa Gaul (48) – CEO and managing director of IAST Software Solutions.
• Gaurabai (42) – His wife.
• Vijayalakshmi (36) – A relative.
• John (16), Deeksha (12), and Arya (6) – Children of the family.

The family, residents of Bengaluru’s HSR Layout, were traveling to Vijayapura when the tragic incident occurred.
