Officials have stated that one of the accused implicated in the murder of Tamil Nadu BSP Chief was killed in a police encounter in Chennai late last evening.
Police sources stated that Thiruvengadam was brought to the location to retrieve the weapons used in K Armstrong’s murder when he fired at police officials with the recovered firearm.
Earlier this month, K Armstrong was fatally attacked by six men on motorcycles near his residence in Chennai. The assailants targeted Armstrong while he was in conversation with some party functionaries near his home in Sembium. After the attack, they fled the scene. Despite his family rushing him to a hospital, Armstrong was pronounced dead upon arrival.
Thiruvengadam was one of the suspects detained for K Armstrong’s murder.
BSP chief Mayawati demanded a CBI investigation into the alleged murder. “I urge the state government, especially the Chief Minister, to ensure law and order in the state. The weaker sections, in particular, should feel safe. Had the government been serious, the accused would have been arrested. Since that is not the case, we urge the state government to refer the case to the CBI,” she had stated.
