The Election Commission conducted a briefing in the national capital on Monday for its observers overseeing the 2024 General Election to Lok Sabha and Legislative Assemblies. Chief Election Commissioner Rajiv Kumar is slated to address the gathering, as per sources. The primary objective of the meeting, attended by over 2000 observers, is to coordinate strategies to ensure adherence to the model code during the elections.
These observers, including police, general, and expenditure officers, are drawn from various civil services. Additionally, the Election Commission will visit Jammu and Kashmir to assess the feasibility of holding polls in the Union Territory, with Lok Sabha election dates likely to be disclosed thereafter. Previously, the Commission conducted similar assessments in Kolkata, Lucknow, Patna, Chennai, and Bhubaneshwar, engaging with regional parties and government officials to evaluate state poll readiness.
Earlier in March, officials from the Election Commission of India convened a review meeting with District Election Officers, Police Commissioners, and other senior officials in Guwahati to evaluate preparations for the forthcoming Lok Sabha polls, expected to take place between April and May this year.
