Telangana to Receive Heavy Rains Due to Cyclone Remal

The IMD Amaravati report suggests that the southwest monsoons may arrive in Andhra Pradesh around June 4. Telangana typically sees the arrival of rain clouds a few days after. Kerala is expected to experience the onset of monsoon on May 31, a day earlier than usual due to weather patterns in the central Bay of Bengal. Director S. Stella of IMD-Amaravati mentioned that various models predict the monsoon’s arrival in Kerala on May 31, give or take four days. If conditions permit, it could reach Tirupati and other parts of Rayalaseema by June 4, compared to last year’s onset on June 19.

In April, an earlier IMD report anticipated above-normal monsoon rains between June and September in the peninsula, amounting to 106 percent of the long period average (LPA). Meanwhile, the first storm of the season, Cyclone ‘Remal’—meaning ‘sand’ in Arabic, named by Oman—will escalate into a severe cyclonic storm and head towards Bangladesh. The landfall point is projected to be near the Sunderbans area of West Bengal. During landfall on Sunday, IMD scientist Monica Sharma forecasts strong winds up to 135 kmph, with the cyclone’s impact lasting approximately 24 hours. Hyderabad is expected to experience rain and cooler temperatures, with the IMD warning of 40 kmph winds and heavy rainfall in several districts of the state.
