Bharat Rashtra Samithi (BRS) Working President K.T. Rama Rao (KTR) on Sunday launched a sharp attack on the Congress-led Telangana government after former Chief Minister K. Chandrashekar Rao (KCR) appeared before the Special Investigation Team (SIT), alleging that the inquiry was driven by political vendetta and diversionary tactics.
Addressing the media along with senior party leaders, KTR described the Congress government’s two-year rule in three words “Diversion, Subversion and Perversion.” He accused the administration of deliberately shifting public attention away from its governance failures through what he termed “perverted politics.”
KTR alleged that the SIT had failed to strictly adhere to legal provisions, including those under the Bharatiya Nagarik Suraksha Sanhita (BNSS). However, he said KCR chose to cooperate fully with the inquiry despite not being legally obligated to appear in person, out of respect for the Constitution and the rule of law. He noted that while courts have permitted questioning at residences in several cases, KCR voluntarily appeared before the SIT and answered all questions in detail.
He claimed the proceedings made it evident to senior police officials, including the DGP and SIT officers, that no wrongdoing had occurred during the BRS government’s tenure. KTR alleged that for the past two years, the Congress had encouraged rumours, selective leaks and speculative narratives to malign KCR, expressing hope that the inquiry would finally put an end to politically motivated insinuations.
Appealing to the media, KTR urged journalists not to rely on unofficial leaks, stating that any substantive findings should be communicated through formal statements. “Trying to smear KCR is like spitting at the sun it will fall back on those who attempt it,” he remarked.
KTR alleged that the renewed focus on the case coincided with the municipal elections and was aimed at disrupting the BRS’s grassroots campaign. He questioned the independence of the SIT, asking whether it was functioning under political direction.
Referring to Congress protests when central agencies summoned Rahul Gandhi and Sonia Gandhi, KTR accused the ruling party of double standards. He thanked BRS cadres for statewide protests and praised the media for coverage.
Criticising the government over law-and-order issues and Telangana’s alleged neglect in the Union Budget, KTR claimed the timing of KCR’s questioning on Budget Day was meant to divert attention from the State receiving “zero” allocations yet again.
