The Telangana Cyber Security Bureau (TGCSB) has achieved a major breakthrough in its fight against cybercrime, arresting six accused in connection with three high-value cyber fraud cases involving losses exceeding Rs 16 crore. As part of a coordinated interstate operation, TGCSB deployed two special teams to Kerala and one team to Bengaluru, successfully apprehending three accused from each state.

The arrests relate to three cases registered at the Cyber Crime Police Station (Headquarters), TGCSB, involving offences under the Information Technology Act and Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita (BNS). The cases include five bank account holders and one agent accused of facilitating fraudulent financial transactions.

In Cr.No.38/2024, a senior citizen woman was cheated of Rs 5.66 crore by fraudsters impersonating officials from TRAI, CBI and RBI. The victim was placed under so-called “digital arrest” via Skype, threatened with false criminal allegations, and coerced into transferring large sums through RTGS. Fake official documents bearing government logos were used to gain her trust. The scam came to light when she visited the real CBI office and discovered the deception.

Renju Pathakku Reji (30), a businessman from Kerala, was arrested for providing his company bank account as a mule account to receive fraud proceeds. One mobile phone was seized.

In Cr.No.01/2026, another senior citizen lost Rs 7.12 crore after receiving WhatsApp calls from fraudsters posing as Blue Dart staff and police officials. He was pressured into sharing financial details and transferring money over two months. Accused Arun Sreenivas and Sanal V Menon, both from Kerala, were arrested for supplying bank accounts used in the scam. Two mobile phones were seized.

In Cr.No.02/2026, a businessman from Begumpet was duped of Rs 3.40 crore in an online trading scam. Fraudsters posing as stock market experts lured him to invest through a fake trading platform promising high returns. When he attempted to withdraw funds, additional payments were demanded, raising suspicion.

Three Bengaluru-based accused — V. Jayaprakash, Balaraju and Harish G — were arrested for supplying company accounts and mobile-linked banking access to the main fraudsters. Three mobile phones were seized. Further efforts are underway to trace absconding masterminds.

TGCSB urged citizens not to share bank accounts or credentials with anyone promising commission or tax evasion benefits, warning that such acts enable cyber fraud.
