A 13-year-old schoolgirl was sexually abused by three educators at a government school in Tamil Nadu’s Krishnagiri district.

The three suspects have been placed under a 15-day police remand following their arrest on Wednesday for various violations of the Protection of Children from Sexual Offences (POCSO) Act.

“A 13-year-old girl student was reportedly sexually abused by three educators at a government middle school in Krishnagiri district. The three educators have been suspended by the District Education Officer (DEO) and arrested under multiple sections of the Protection of Children from Sexual Offences (POCSO) Act. The accused educators have been remanded to police custody for 15 days,” ANI reported Krishnagiri collector C Dinesh Kumar as stating.

As per law enforcement, the offense occurred inside the school restroom on January 2. A senior police official who was informed about the case revealed that the incident was discovered on February 2, a full month after the alleged offense happened when the student’s parents alerted the headmaster regarding the assault.

After receiving the information, the district education officer (DEO) and the child helpline commenced actions against the educators. “Following the complaint filed by the survivor’s parents, the three accused educators have been suspended and arrested under multiple sections of the POCSO Act,” he continued.

The Anna University case

Late last year, the Kotturpuram police in Tamil Nadu apprehended 37-year-old Gnanasekaran, a biryani vendor, the sole suspect in the Anna University incident. He had unlawfully entered the university and allegedly assaulted a second-year student.

In her police complaint, the woman stated that she was spending time with her male friend behind a building on December 23 when the suspect threatened them. He first assaulted her male companion, a third-year student, before sexually assaulting her. She reported the complaint the following day at the Kotturpuram all-women police station. The crime instigated significant political uproar in the state.
