Former Union Minister and current Bathinda MP Harsimrat Kaur Badal on Tuesday said the Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) government should not “adopt double standards” and that Chief Minister Bhagwant Mann should take responsibility for the murder of an innocent farmer during a democratic protest under his watch and resign forthwith.
Speaking about the death of a Sikh farmer following a lathi charge at Sangrur on the orders of Chief Minister Mann, Badal said, “Why is the AAP government not holding the Home Minister responsible for this death? It cannot keep different yardsticks for itself vis a vis the SAD. We demand immediate registration of a murder case against the Chief Minister as well as senior police officials responsible for the murder of farmer Pritam Singh at Sangrur [on Monday].” She also questioned the silence of “so-called Sikh organisations” over the issue. She said all such leaders who were spewing hatred against the Shiromani Akali Dal (SAD) had not uttered a single word to either condemn the AAP government for the brutality inflicted on farmers or even hailed the murdered farmer as a martyr.
She further charged that self-styled organisations and Sikh leaders were silent because they were “least interested” in the welfare of farmers or the “panth” as their sole interest was to weaken the SAD one way or the other. The MP also visited Khuddian Gulab Singh village to give her condolences to the family of Gurwinder Singh, who died due to a drug overdose, said it was unfortunate that people were dying due to drug overdoses in the village of minister, Gurmeet Singh Khuddian.
