Swati Maliwal Case: Delhi Police May Visit CM’s Residence To Probe And Record Statements

Delhi Police might visit the Chief Minister’s residence on Friday to investigate and record statements from the policemen and staff present during the alleged assault on Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) MP Swati Maliwal, sources revealed.

Delhi Police reportedly assaulted the AAP’s Rajya Sabha MP a few days ago; on Thursday, they filed a FIR at the Civil Lines police station. Maliwal said that Bibhav Kumar, the personal secretary of Chief Minister Arvind Kejriwal, had attacked her.

Under Section 164 of the Criminal Procedure Code, which permits a magistrate to record a person’s statement or confession during an inquiry, the police intend to have her statement recorded before a magistrate.

Maliwal made a PCR call from the Chief Minister’s House at 9:34 pm on May 13. According to sources, Delhi Police may issue a notice to Bibhav Kumar, requesting him to join the investigation.

The FIR, based on Maliwal’s complaint, states that she was slapped, hit on the stomach, attacked, and kicked by Bibhav Kumar at the Chief Minister’s residence. The FIR names Bibhav Kumar and includes sections 354, 506, 509, and 323 of the IPC, covering offences such as assault or criminal force to outrage a woman’s modesty, criminal intimidation, and assault.

After filing the complaint, Swati Maliwal posted on X, urging the Bharatiya Janata Party not to politicize the incident. She described the event as “very bad” and stated that she had provided her statement to the police.

“What happened to me was very bad. I have given my statement to the police on the incident that happened to me. I hope that appropriate action will be taken. The last few days have been very difficult for me. I thank those who prayed for me. Those who tried to do character assassination, said that she was doing it on the instructions of the other party, may God keep them happy too,” the former DCW chief wrote in a post on Thursday after filing her complaint with Delhi Police.
