Actress Swara Bhasker criticized Electronic Voting Machines (EVMs) after her husband, Fahad Ahmad, lost the Anushakti Nagar assembly seat in Maharashtra. Fahad, who ran as an NCP (Sharad Pawar) candidate, was defeated by Sana Malik from the Ajit Pawar-led NCP faction.
Swara raised doubts about the voting process in a post on X (formerly Twitter). She stated, “In Anushakti Nagar vidhaan sabha after a steady lead by @FahadZirarAhmad of NCP-SP.. round 17, 18, 19 suddenly 99% battery charger EVMs are opened and BJP supported NCP-Ajit Pawar candidate takes lead. How can machines that have been voted on ALL day long have 99% charged batteries? Why do all 99% charged batteries give votes to BJP and its allies?”
Fahad Ahmad’s Early Lead Fades
Fahad initially led in the vote count against Sana Malik. However, his lead diminished in the final rounds. The Election Commission trends showed Sana Malik ahead by 3,378 votes before the final results were declared.
Anushakti Nagar’s Strategic Role
The Anushakti Nagar assembly constituency plays a key role in the Mumbai South-Central Lok Sabha region. Despite Fahad’s strong start, the seat ultimately went to the Ajit Pawar-led NCP candidate.
Mahayuti Alliance Celebrates Big Win
The BJP-led Mahayuti alliance achieved a landslide victory in Maharashtra. The coalition, including the BJP, Shiv Sena, and Ajit Pawar’s NCP faction, secured leads in over 220 seats, easily crossing the majority mark.
BJP workers celebrated their success at the party’s Mumbai office with sweets and celebrations.
Opposition Faces Setbacks
While the opposition suffered a major loss in Maharashtra, they found some comfort in Jharkhand. Voters there decided to maintain stability instead of opting for change.
