Suspected Militants Launch Rocket Attack in Manipur; One Senior Citizen Killed, Six Injured

Suspected militants launched a deadly attack, deploying long-range rockets in two locations within Bishnupur District, causing significant civilian casualties. In Moirang Phiwangbam Leikai, 78-year-old senior citizen RK Rabei tragically lost his life, while six other civilians sustained injuries in Moirang Khoiru Leikai.

As per Manipur Police, the attack was carried out by Kuki militants have deployed long-range rockets.

In response to the attack, police teams and additional security forces were swiftly dispatched to conduct combing operations in the adjoining hill ranges. During the operation, two bunkers in Mualsang village and one bunker in Laika Mualsau village, both located in Churachandpur District, were destroyed. The situation escalated when security forces, including the Superintendent of Police from Bishnupur District, came under fire from suspected Kuki militants. The police retaliated with force, successfully repelling the attack.

A military helicopter was deployed to conduct aerial patrols in the area, while senior police officials, including the Inspector General of Police (IGP) and Deputy Inspector General of Police (DIGP), arrived on the scene to oversee the security response and manage the volatile situation.

Authorities have held high-level security meetings to assess the ongoing threat, with officials closely monitoring the area. Law enforcement agencies remain on high alert and are prepared to respond to any further escalations.

On Thursday night, residents in Kumbi village near Tronglaobi reported seeing multiple drones.

Two people were killed and nine including a 12-year-old girl were injured in firing and drone attacks by “suspected Kuki insurgents” on Sunday. The injured girl was the daughter of one of the two who was shot in the head. Another three were injured in a drone bomb attack in Manipur’s Senjam Chirang on Monday.
