Chandigarh: Chandigarh Police on Sunday recovered a suspected Improvised Explosive Device (IED) from behind the Sector 43 bus stand, triggering a security alert in the area.
The suspected explosive was found packed inside a tiffin bag and was spotted by an onlooker, following which the police were informed.
A police team, along with the bomb disposal squad, rushed to the spot and cordoned off the area. Forensic teams also reached the location as the recovered items were examined.
Chandigarh Police said three people have been arrested in connection with the case. An FIR has been registered at Police Station 36 and an investigation has been launched.
“Chandigarh Police have arrested three individuals in connection with the case. The police have registered an FIR and initiated an investigation. Security arrangements at the site have been tightened, and investigative agencies are examining the recovered items,” the police said.
Security has been intensified around the Sector 43 bus stand as investigative agencies continue to examine the suspected explosive and other recovered items. Police said further details would be shared as the investigation progresses.
The police appealed to the public not to panic and urged people to remain calm and immediately report any suspicious activity to the authorities.
