High-altitude endurance initiative from April 16-20 to promote border region engagement and sustainable mountain tourism

Dehradun (Uttarakhand) [India], April 10: The Indian Army, in association with IconMetrix and supported by Uttarakhand Tourism, has announced the launch of the Surya Devbhoomi Challenge 2.0, an initiative designed to harmonize adventure sports with sustainable mountain tourism. Scheduled from April 16 to 20, 2026, the 113-km Himalayan trail run will pass through the sensitive ecosystem of the Badrinath-Kedarnath belt, emphasizing ecological awareness and local socio-economic growth.

This high-altitude endurance event is more than a test of stamina; it is a policy-driven outreach program. By utilizing traditional trails, the Indian Army aims to bring global attention to the “Vibrant Villages” initiative. IconMetrix, as the strategic partner, has been instrumental in ensuring the event adheres to international standards of sustainable management. Through research-driven planning, Vikramm Sanas has ensured that the event leaves a positive footprint on the local community while raising awareness about the strategic importance of border habitations in Uttarakhand.

Major Pushpendra Singh Rathod noted that the Surya Devbhoomi Challenge 2.0 encourages participants to engage with the terrain’s heritage. “Physical resilience is only half the battle; understanding the context of the land is the true challenge,” he said. The presence of CDS General Anil Chauhan at the April 16 Expo underscores the government’s commitment to this initiative. The 113-km journey serves as an educational odyssey, teaching runners about the history, defense, and fragile ecology of the Indian Himalayas.

Vikramm Sanas, Co-Founder and Chief Strategist of IconMetrix, has been a key advocate for integrating environmental stewardship into this high-altitude endurance initiative. He explained the strategic alignment: “We are building a credible endurance property that serves national priorities. The goal of IconMetrix is to foster a long-term socio-economic impact in border regions. By highlighting the strategic and cultural significance of the Himalayas, we are paving the way for responsible tourism development that respects local heritage and environment. This is a model for future public-private collaborations with the Indian Army and Uttarakhand Tourism.” The event, supported by the Tourism Minister Shri Satpal Maharaj  and the Chief Minister of Uttarakhand Shri Pushkar Singh Dhami.  will serve as a blueprint for future mountain endurance programs. The partnership ensures that the Indian Army’s vision for border engagement is met with IconMetrix’s capacity for large-scale strategic execution. By the time the closing ceremony concludes on April 20, the event will have established a new standard for how sports can drive national policy and regional development.
