Supreme Court: History Sheet Is Only An Internal Police Document

During the hearing of AAP MLA Amanatullah Khan’s Waqf bribery case, the Supreme Court noted that the history sheet is an internal document and should not be disclosed to the public.

With this observation, the supreme court has partly set aside the Delhi High court’s order which validates the publication of ‘history sheet.”

Also, the supreme court had initiated Suo-moto cases against the mechanical entries in the history sheet against Indvidual’s who belong to socially economically and educationally disadvantaged backgrounds.

Further, the court has also directed all the state authorities and union territories to have a relook at their policies.

What Is the Case All About?

Aam Aadmi Party MLA Amanatullah Khan earlier challenged the Delhi’s high court regarding the decision of Delhi police to list him as “history-sheeter” and of “bad character.”

This case was in connection with the bribery where the MLA had allegedly misappropriated Delhi’s Waqf boards funds.

Later on, the last date of hearing, the supreme court had expunged the names of minor relatives of AAP MLA Amantullah Khan.

After reserving its judgement earlier, it has directed the Delhi police to amend the standing order of March 21, 2024. And asked the Commissioner of Police Delhi to designate senior police officer to audit the history sheet, to ensure confidentiality.
