Supreme Court Adjourns WB Govt’s Plea on Sandeshkhali Case till July

In a recent development, the Supreme Court adjourned the West Bengal government’s plea against the Calcutta High Court’s ruling till July.

The West Bengal government had previously filed the plea challenging the High Court’s order which directed the CBI to investigate cases of land-grabbing and sexual assault in Sandeshkhali.

Furthermore, the High Court had previously instructed the CBI to compile a detailed report on the illegal conversion of agricultural land into water bodies by thoroughly inspecting the land records allegedly seized. Additionally, the High Court also requested a report on the crimes committed against women.

When asked about the decision, the apex court questioned why the state should provide protection to the individuals. In response, the West Bengal government stated that despite conducting the investigation in a fair manner, there are still criticisms against the state.

“Why should state protect interest of private individuals,”- Supreme court sharing its observation. To this west Bengal government responded- “There are comments against the state which is being challenged as state has carried out fair investigation.”

As per ANI, the supreme court had adjourned the plea till the month of July.
