In a recent gathering at Himachal Pradesh University, Chief Minister Sukhvinder Singh Sukhu has made ambitious announcements regarding the future of education in the state. The event, organised by the Hamirpur Students Union on Wednesday, saw the Chief Minister promising an educational transformation in the wake of 5G technology.
CM Sukhu stated that the government is considering the introduction of technical courses to aid youth in securing more significant employment and self-employment opportunities. The new courses to be added would include Robotics, Blockchain Technology, Cyber Security, Cloud Computing Data Analytics, Artificial Intelligence, and Machine Learning.
To boost quality education in rural areas, a Rajiv Gandhi Day Boarding School will be established in each assembly constituency. The schools, which will include pre-nursery classes, will be rolled out in a phased manner. The government has allocated Rs. 300 crore towards this initiative.
In a move to encourage underprivileged students, the government will offer educational loans at a low-interest rate of one per cent. Sukhu also highlighted the state’s commitment towards orphans, stating, “Legal rights have been given to 6000 orphans by giving them the status of ‘Children of the State.’ The government will be responsible for their care until they reach the age of 27.” As part of this commitment, the government will bear the costs of fees, hostel expenses, monthly pocket money of Rs. 4, 000, clothing and festival allowances, as well as an annual 15-day exposure trip.
Reflecting on his personal journey, the Chief Minister shared his pride in being an alumnus of Himachal Pradesh University and lauded his former classmates who are now making significant contributions in various fields. He urged the younger generation to cherish and preserve the state’s rich culture.
Among the attendees of the event were Public Works Minister Vikramaditya Singh, Chief Parliamentary Secretary Sunder Singh Thakur, MLAs Harish Janartha and Chaitanya Sharma, Congress leader Rajneesh Kimta, Additional Deputy Commissioner Shimla, Shivam Pratap Singh, and other dignitaries. The event ended with a grand welcome extended to the Chief Minister by the university community.
