Candidates from the Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) and Congress clashed in Zira town, Ferozepur district, Punjab, on Tuesday, as confirmed by the Punjab Police. The altercation occurred when candidates arrived to file their nominations for the Panchayat elections, leading to incidents of stone pelting between the two groups.
“Candidates from AAP and Congress clashed while filing their nominations, resulting in stone pelting. The police intervened immediately, and we are taking legal action, including filing an FIR. The situation is now under control,” stated Ferozepur SSP Somya Mishra in an interview with ANI.
She added, “We will investigate all aspects of the incident. The police took necessary precautions to prevent further clashes.”
Several individuals were reported injured during the confrontation and were promptly taken to the hospital. Further updates on the situation are pending.
