Stalker attacks woman in Delhi taxi, locals intervene

Prachi Malik, a 23-year-old woman from Delhi, was brutally attacked by her ex-boyfriend and stalker, Gaurav Pal, inside a taxi. Malik met Pal in 2021 and ended their relationship due to his increasing obsession. On the morning of October 12, as Malik headed to her taxi, Pal ambushed her, attempting to snatch her belongings and later stabbed her over 20 times in the cab. The attacker was subdued by the quick intervention of the cab driver and nearby residents.
Recalling the horrifying ordeal, Malik said, “He grabbed my hair, tried to take my laptop bag, and even aimed for my eyes. My hands were slashed as I tried to defend myself.” Discharged from the hospital on Wednesday, Malik now faces a six-month recovery period and is currently on a liquid diet due to her injuries.
Prior to the attack, Malik had distanced herself from Pal, who insisted she quit her job and marry him. Despite blocking his number, Pal’s persistence became evident when he followed her, knowing her whereabouts. The previous night’s events escalated when Malik blocked his persistent calls.
Even after his arrest, Pal threatened Malik’s life. Malik’s main concern now is that Pal remains behind bars. She stated, “I don’t want any woman to experience what I went through.”
Malik had previously voiced concerns about Pal’s behaviour to the police, who promised intervention. Authorities now face scrutiny for their inaction, as they claimed the situation was “resolved amicably.” Malik’s commitment to her work stems from her desire to support her single mother and four siblings, a fact Pal seemingly ignored.
