Tamil Nadu Chief Minister MK Stalin stated on Tuesday that in order for the National Eligibility cum Entrance Test (NEET) examination to be abolished, the categorization of education must be shifted from the Concurrent list to the State list.
In a statement of notable significance, especially in the wake of the unfortunate demise of a NEET examinee who couldn’t clear the exam for the second time, Chief Minister MK Stalin remarked, “Education should be moved to the State List, as this is the only way NEET could be abolished. Tamil Nadu is contributing to various sectors such as Education, Medicine, Economy, Agriculture, Human Resource, and Export, among others,” he emphasized.
Earlier, Tamil Nadu Minister Udhayanidhi Stalin criticised the central government in the aftermath of the tragic death of a father and son due to the latter’s inability to pass the National Eligibility cum Entrance Test (NEET). He affirmed that the state would engage in a legal battle against the examination.
He further noted that NEET not only victimized the youth but was also pushing their parents to extreme measures, including loss of life.
He further emphasized that the Centre should grasp the mental state of Tamil Nadu students and their parents. Additionally, he alleged that the reason behind such unfortunate deaths lies in the Governor’s failure to fulfil his responsibility of cancelling NEET, despite it being proposed twice in the Tamil Nadu Legislative Assembly. Udayanidhi asserted that the Governor had dismissed and returned the proposal.
Udayanidhi asserted that a resolution to this pressing issue would likely only come after the 2024 Lok Sabha polls. He urged aspiring medical students in the state to maintain their composure and self-assurance.
