Special Train Departs Chennai Central After Bagmati Express Collision, 19 Injured, Rescue Efforts Ongoing

A special train carrying stranded passengers from the Mysuru-Darbhanga Bagmati Express, which collided with a stationary goods train at Kavaraippettai Railway Station, departed from Dr MGR Chennai Central early Saturday morning, at around 4:45 a.m. Officials provided the passengers with food and water during their wait.

The railways set up a help desk at Chennai Central to assist those affected by the accident. The collision, which occurred around 8:30 p.m. on Friday night between Ponneri and Kavaraippettai railway stations on the Chennai-Gudur section, resulted in the derailment of 12 coaches and left 19 passengers injured. The incident disrupted train services, leading to the cancellation of two trains and the rerouting of several others.

Tamil Nadu Chief Minister MK Stalin expressed shock over the accident and confirmed that rescue operations were underway. Injured passengers were taken to the hospital, and a team was set up to provide food and travel arrangements for the stranded. Minister for Minorities SM Nasar and other officials were dispatched to the scene, while CM Stalin continued to monitor the situation. Additionally, Deputy Chief Minister Udhayanidhi Stalin visited the injured at the Government Stanley Medical College Hospital in Chennai.
