Social Activist Adnan Ali Khan Injured in Malerkotla Attack; Asks for Police Protection

Adnan Ali Khan, a social activist from the Muslim community, was attacked in broad daylight in Malerkotla town on Wednesday. During the attack, one of his ears was chopped off using a sharp weapon.

Khan claims that the attackers, who were around 20 in number, were armed with revolvers, swords, and other sharp-edged weapons. Fearing for his life, he has requested the AAP government and Punjab Police to provide him with security.

Khan, who recently started an organization called the “Muslim Tiger Force,” blames “Muslim land mafia” for the attack. He believes the attack was a result of his efforts to fight against encroachers on Waqf Board properties in Punjab, including mosques and burial grounds. Khan mentioned that he had recently removed encroachers from a piece of land in Raikot, which he believes is why he was targeted. He has been asking the Punjab Chief Minister and Director General of Police for protection but has received no response.

On Wednesday, Khan was at a typist’s shop in Malerkotla when a group of around 20 armed men attacked him. “They chopped off one of my ears, and I needed 15 stitches. They intended to kill me,” Khan said. He also alleged that the local police were not registering the FIR with the serious charge of attempt to murder due to pressure from a local MLA. “Thanks to the crowd that took me to the hospital. Malerkotla police is not adding serious charges like attempt to murder because of local political pressure. I can’t hear properly as they pierced a sharp weapon into my ear,” Khan said.

Khan had recently campaigned for Congress candidate Sukhpal Singh Khaira in the Lok Sabha elections for the Sangrur seat, which Khaira lost.

Malerkotla DSP Gurdev Singh confirmed that an FIR has been filed against six identified suspects named by Khan, along with their unidentified accomplices. “The FIR sections are based on the initial medical report which describes the injuries as being caused by blunt weapons. We will add the attempt to murder charge as the investigation progresses,” said the DSP.
