For the first time in four months, the terror group Jaish-e-Mohammad (JeM) has admitted that family members of its chief, Masood Azhar, were killed during India’s Operation Sindoor in May 2025. The shocking revelation came through a 43-second video that is now going viral on social media, showing a senior JeM commander, Masood Ilyas Kashmiri, confessing the loss.

JeM Commander Confesses Losses

In the video, Masood Ilyas Kashmiri speaks openly about the brutal attack on the JeM’s Bahawalpur camp carried out by Indian forces. Kashmiri emotionally described how, during the operation on May 7, key family members of Masood Azhar including his sisters, sons, and grandchildren were killed in the strike.

Kashmiri said in Urdu, “… sab kuch kurban karne ke baad May 7 ko Bahawalpur je andar Maulana Masood Azhar ki family ke log- behne, aur bete, aur bachhe - reza reza ho gye, tukde tukde ho gaye,"
which translates to,
"After sacrificing everything, on May 7 in Bahawalpur, Maulana Masood Azhar's family members were torn into pieces."

This public admission by a top commander is unprecedented, as JeM had previously not confirmed any such loss, despite widespread speculation and media reports suggesting casualties among Azhar’s close family during the operation.

Background: Operation Sindoor

Operation Sindoor was a meticulously planned and executed strike by Indian security forces targeting the main training camp of Jaish-e-Mohammad in Bahawalpur, Pakistan. The operation aimed to dismantle JeM’s infrastructure and significantly weaken its operational capabilities, particularly following multiple cross-border terrorist activities linked to the group.

India’s authorities have claimed the operation was a precise and successful counter-terror action that struck at the core of JeM’s leadership and strategic planning. This video confession now provides further insight into the impact of the operation on the terror organization’s hierarchy.

Social Media Reaction and Impact

The viral video has ignited a wave of reactions across social media platforms. Many users are sharing the footage as proof of India’s strong stance against terrorism, while others are debating the authenticity and implications of the confession.

Security analysts say that such a public admission could indicate internal turmoil within JeM, possibly weakening their organizational structure. They further suggest that the video serves as psychological warfare, sending a message not only to the group but also to their sympathizers.

What Lies Ahead

While the video raises many questions about JeM’s internal dynamics, it also reinforces India’s narrative that it will not tolerate terror groups using neighboring territories to destabilize the region. The government is expected to closely monitor the situation and further actions by JeM following this admission.

As of now, there is no official statement from Pakistan regarding this specific video or the claims made by Kashmiri. International observers are watching closely, given the sensitive implications for Indo-Pak relations and regional security.
