Maharashtra’s political landscape is poised for a significant development as caretaker Chief Minister Eknath Shinde arrived in New Delhi on Thursday to engage in discussions with Union Home Minister Amit Shah and other leaders of the Mahayuti alliance regarding the formation of the new state government.

Shinde’s Commitment to Collective Decision-Making

Addressing the media upon his arrival, Shinde emphasised that there are no obstacles concerning the Chief Minister’s position within the Mahayuti alliance. He expressed his dedication to the alliance’s unity, stating, “This ‘ladla bhai’ has arrived in Delhi, and the ‘ladla bhai’ is a designation higher than anything else for me.” Shinde underscored his readiness to accept any decision made by Prime Minister Narendra Modi concerning the state’s leadership. He remarked, “I have told the Prime Minister that if my presence creates any obstacle in forming the government in Maharashtra, there should be no hesitation in making a decision. Whatever decision you take will be acceptable to me.”

Mahayuti Alliance’s Unified Approach

BJP leader Devendra Fadnavis affirmed the alliance’s cohesion, stating that the Mahayuti alliance has consistently made decisions collectively. He noted, “Before the elections, we announced that the decision regarding the Chief Minister’s post would be taken collectively after the results. A few people had doubts, but Eknath Shinde ji has clarified those today. We will soon meet our leaders and finalize the decision.”

Ongoing Deliberations Among Alliance Partners

In parallel, NCP leader Ajit Pawar convened a meeting with party leaders in Delhi to deliberate on the government’s formation. The Mahayuti alliance, comprising the BJP, Shiv Sena, and NCP, is actively engaging in discussions to determine the leadership structure for the forthcoming administration.

Anticipation Surrounding the Chief Ministerial Appointment

The recent assembly elections resulted in a decisive victory for the Mahayuti alliance, securing 230 out of 288 seats, thereby retaining power in the state. The alliance is now in the process of finalizing the Chief Ministerial candidate, with both Eknath Shinde and Devendra Fadnavis being prominent contenders. The decision is expected to be made following consultations with senior leaders in Delhi.

Public and Political Reactions

The impending decision has garnered significant attention from both the public and political circles. Supporters of the respective leaders are closely monitoring the developments, expressing their preferences and expectations for the state’s leadership.
