Shinde Led Maharashtra Government Grants New ‘Status’ To Cows In Election-Bound State
Maharashtra Government gives new status to cows
The Maharashtra government has officially recognized the indigenous cow as ‘Rajmata-Gaumata’ to honor its significance in Indian culture, agriculture, and healthcare. This declaration highlights the historical, scientific, and spiritual value of cows in human life, emphasizing that local cow’s milk is a vital component of the human diet due to its nutritional benefits.
Government Resolution Details
This announcement was made through a Government Resolution, signed by Maharashtra Governor CP Radhakrishnan, which stated, “Cows have been an important part of human life since ancient times. Since time immemorial, the cow has been given the name ‘Kamarrenu’ in recognition of its historical, scientific, and spiritual significance. We find different breeds of cows across the country; however, the numbers of indigenous cows are declining rapidly.”
The GR further mentioned, “The decline in the number of Indigenous cows is a matter of concern,” and urged, “Taking the background into account, livestock farmers are being urged to rear Indigenous cows. And in view of this, the government is declaring the indigenous cow as ‘Rajmata-Gaumata.'”
