On Wednesday, the International Crimes Tribunal (ICT) sentenced former Bangladesh Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina to six months in jail in a contempt of court case. The ruling was delivered by a three-member bench of the International Crimes Tribunal-1 headed by Justice Md Golam Mortuza Mozumder, The Dhaka Tribune reports.

This is the first time the deposed Awami League leader has been sentenced in any of the cases since she fled Bangladesh about a year back. Hasina escaped from Bangladesh after her government collapsed in dramatic fashion in the aftermath of mass protests. She has remained in a safe house in New Delhi ever since she arrived in India in August 2024.

In the same case, the tribunal also punished Shakil Akand Bulbul of Gobindaganj in Gaibandha with two months in jail.
