Sheesh Mahal 2.0: BJP Accuses Kejriwal of Building Lavish 2-Acre Mansion with Punjab Funds

The BJP has launched a strong attack on AAP chief Arvind Kejriwal, accusing him of using government funds to build a lavish home. The party claims that the two-acre bungalow in Chandigarh’s Sector 2, taken from the Punjab CM’s quota, is Kejriwal’s new “Sheesh Mahal.”

What Exactly is the BJP Alleging?

The Delhi BJP has launched a sharp attack, claiming that Kejriwal, who portrays himself as a common man, is acting as Punjab’s “Super CM.” They assert that he has had a “magnificent Sheesh Mahal” prepared for himself in Chandigarh. To substantiate the claim, the party shared a satellite image of a government bungalow complex on social media platform X. They described the property as a “luxurious 7-star, two-acre government bungalow” allotted from the quota of Punjab Chief Minister Bhagwant Mann. This, they allege, is a clear misuse of Punjab government funds for personal luxury.

Are There Other Accusations Beyond the Property?

Adding fuel to the fire, AAP’s own Rajya Sabha member, Swati Maliwal, leveled further charges. She accused Kejriwal of routinely using Punjab government aircraft for personal and party-related travel. In a social media post, she provided a specific example, alleging, “Yesterday, he boarded a government helicopter right from in front of his house for Ambala, and then from Ambala, the Punjab government’s private jet took him to Gujarat for party work.” Maliwal claimed that the entire Punjab government machinery is engaged in serving one individual, implying a serious misuse of state resources.

How Has the Aam Aadmi Party Responded?

The AAP has completely rejected the accusations, calling them “fake” and driven by frustration. In a post on X, the party countered the BJP’s claims, noting that the Chandigarh administration is run by the central BJP government. “The BJP’s fake claim is that we have built a 7-star house in Chandigarh, but the Chandigarh administration is under the BJP. Only they can get something built, no one else,” the party stated. They challenged the BJP to produce an allotment letter and identified the property as the legitimate Punjab CM’s camp office, not a personal residence for Kejriwal.

Why is This Being Called ‘Sheesh Mahal 2.0’?

“Sheesh Mahal” is linked to an earlier controversy that stained AAP’s public image. In 2024, Kejriwal was charged with illegal construction at his Delhi residence on Flag Staff Road. A CPWD investigation, prompted by a BJP complaint, found several irregularities in the eight-acre mansion. The BJP had then called it a “Sheesh Mahal,” and now links the Chandigarh case to that, calling it a repeat act.
