In a shocking and tragic case from Kerala, a 24-year-old woman, Greeshma, has been sentenced to death by a district court for killing her boyfriend, Sharon Raj, in 2022. The crime involved luring Raj to consume a pesticide-laced Ayurvedic drink, leading to his slow and agonizing death over several days.

Death for Brutal Murder of Sharon Raj

The Neyyattinkara Additional District Sessions Court convicted Greeshma of murder after thorough investigations into the incident surrounding Sharon Raj’s death. According to the court, Greeshma’s acts, including calling Raj to her place under pretenses of sexual intercourse and later administering poison, were deliberate and merciless.

The court considered several crucial pieces of evidence, like the video that Sharon Raj had recorded himself before he consumed the unknown drink, showing fear and suspicion on his part against the concoction. Sharon had earlier voiced his doubts over the drink and even had recorded a video about it although Greeshma had begged him not to do so. The victim fought for his life for 11 long days without consuming any food or water, before ultimately succumbing to multiple organ failure on October 25, 2022.

A Conspiracy to End the Relationship

According to the prosecution, Greeshma had become frustrated with her relationship with Sharon since her family had arranged her marriage with another man from Kerala. Greeshma had planned this murder with the help of her uncle, Nirmalakumaran Nair, and her mother so that she could get out of this relationship. All three of them hatched a plan to kill Sharon by poisoning, and after he fell ill due to the poisoning, they hid the poison bottle in an attempt to cover the crime.

Nair received a three-year prison sentence for his role in the murder plot, as he played a crucial part in concealing the crime. Greeshma faced multiple charges under the Indian Penal Code, including Section 302 (murder), Section 364 (kidnapping to commit murder), Section 328 (administering poison), and Section 203 (obstruction of justice).

The appeal of the convicted woman dismissed

During the sentencing, Greeshma’s lawyers requested leniency, stating her impressive academic record, nonexistence of a criminal record, and her being the only daughter of her parents. The court turned down all these arguments based on the seriousness of the crime and the betrayal of trust by the girl.

Court also rejected the claims of physical abuse by Sharon against Greeshma and found that there was no evidence for the same. The court also noted that Sharon was devoted to her even during her contact with her fiancé. The judge mentioned that Greeshma’s shrewd plan to conceal her crime went in vain and that the brutality with which she committed the murder.

Greeshma’s sentence was shocking for the community since it portrayed an ugly case of manipulation, deception, and murder. The handing down of the death penalty from the court testified to the crime’s gravity and betrayal of trust to an extreme degree. It served as a poignant reminder of justice and accountability while dealing with such acts.
