Shambhu Border Witnesses Another Round of Confrontation Between Farmers and Haryana Cops

The Shambhu Border on Sunday witnessed another round of confrontation between farmers and Haryana police when the farmers were trying to cross multilayerd barricading to launch their Delhi March once again.

The police used tear gas shells to control the farmers and pushing them behind from the barricades.

Besides heavy deployment, the Haryana police have also erected barricades at the Shambhu border.

The confrontation started when a group of 101 farmers associated with the Samyukta Kisan Morcha (Non-Political) and Kisan Mazdoor Morcha, on Sunday again decided to resume their Delhi march as per the schedule after they did not receive any call from the Union government for talks which were suspended since February 18. Haryana police officials claimed, “They don’t have permission to hold protests at Delhi. If they show the permission, we will let them pass. They can sit here peacefully, but these are not the people whose names were on the list. But they are coming as a mob, and they don’t have permission.”

The police used tear gas to disperse the protesting farmers. Most of the farmers were equipped with masks and other protectives to lessen the impact of tear gas. But the police did not allow them to cross the barricades and cross the state border.

The call for the Delhi March was given by farmer leader Sarwan Singh Pandher, while announcing the resumption of the march as he claimed that they did not get any message from the government for talks by Saturday a deadline was set by the farmer leaders.

“It is clear that the government was in no mood for hold talks,” said Pandher.
