A high-level meeting of top BJP leaders and Union Ministers was held on Tuesday inside Defence Minister Rajnath Singh’s chamber at the Parliament House. The meeting included prominent figures such as Home Minister Amit Shah, External Affairs Minister S Jaishankar, BJP President JP Nadda, Ministers Shivraj Singh Chouhan, Kiren Rijiju, and Arjun Ram Meghwal. This crucial discussion took place shortly after Vice President Jagdeep Dhankhar submitted his resignation, sparking a political storm.
Opposition Questions Timing of Resignation
The Vice President’s sudden exit has become a topic of intense debate. The Opposition has raised concerns, pointing to the absence of JP Nadda and Kiren Rijiju at the Business Advisory Committee (BAC) meeting, implying that Dhankhar’s decision could be politically influenced.
Health Reasons Cited in Resignation Letter
On Monday evening, Dhankhar stepped down from his role, citing medical reasons. In his official letter addressed to President Droupadi Murmu, he wrote, “To prioritise health care and abide by medical advice, I hereby resign as the Vice President of India, effective immediately, in accordance with Article 67(a) of the constitution.”
He also expressed appreciation for the President, saying, “I extend my deepest gratitude to Your Excellency – the Hon’ble President of India for her unwavering support and the soothing wonderful working relationship we maintained during my tenure.”
Gratitude Toward Modi and Ministers
In addition to the President, Dhankhar thanked Prime Minister Narendra Modi and other members of the Union Cabinet for their support during his time in office. His resignation, especially during the Monsoon Session of Parliament, has triggered speculation and drawn political reactions from across party lines.
