A shocking dowry death case in Greater Noida has led to two arrests in two days. Police arrested the victim’s husband and mother-in-law after disturbing videos revealed the brutal assault.
On Saturday, police arrested Vipin Bhati, husband of 30-year-old Nikki Bhati. The couple married in 2016. Nikki’s family alleged that her in-laws tortured her for dowry. They claimed she suffered repeated abuse, even though they gave dowry items like a car, a motorcycle, and gold.
Her mother said, “We brought her back home a couple of times, but she was taken back on promises. But it kept going on.”
Despite these efforts, Nikki’s suffering continued. According to police, Vipin and his family assaulted her and then set her on fire. She was rushed to a hospital in Delhi, but she could not survive her injuries.
The case came to light after two disturbing videos surfaced. One video showed Vipin and his mother assaulting Nikki. Vipin was seen dragging his wife out of the house by her hair.

The second video captured Nikki walking down the stairs while on fire. Nikki’s sister Kanchan, who is also married into the same family, recorded parts of the assault. She fainted soon after capturing the footage.
After Nikki’s death, Vipin tried to mislead people through emotional posts on social media. He attempted to portray the death as suicide. But the videos exposed the truth, and the police arrested him.
On Sunday, while in custody, Vipin tried to escape. Police shot him in the leg to stop his run. Later, while speaking to reporters, he said, “Fights between husband and wife are common.” He also claimed, “Nikki had died on her own.”
A day after Vipin’s arrest, police also took Nikki’s mother-in-law into custody. She, too, was seen in the video attacking Nikki. Both accused are now under investigation for murder and dowry harassment.
Nikki’s family has demanded strict punishment for the accused. Her mother recalled how Nikki had earlier complained of abuse at her in-laws’ home. Despite repeated promises, the harassment did not stop.

She said, “We gave Vipin a car, a motorcycle, and gold during marriage and after our grandson’s birth. But he wanted even more.”
The family hopes that the shocking videos and the arrests will bring justice for Nikki.
