Scindia Highlights Northeast’s Growth Under Modi’s Leadership

Union Minister Jyotiraditya Scindia praised the rapid development of the Northeast under Prime Minister Narendra Modi. He focused on the region’s major infrastructure improvements, which have been pivotal for its progress.

Manipur’s Long-standing Issues

In an interview, Scindia acknowledged the complexity of the situation in Manipur. However, he emphasized that this issue has persisted for over 25 years. He explained, “Manipur is a situation that has been there for the last 25 to 40 years.” Furthermore, he assured that both the central and state governments are working together to solve the problem.

Decreased Conflict in the Region

Scindia also addressed the region’s overall peace. He highlighted that conflicts have decreased by nearly 80% in the past 10 years. He stated, “The Northeast has never been as peaceful as it is now, under PM Modi’s leadership.” Additionally, he pointed out that 70-75% of insurgents have now joined mainstream society.

Notably, Scindia credited the numerous agreements made under PM Modi and Home Minister Amit Shah for the region’s positive transformation. He also emphasized the significant development that has occurred in the region.

Infrastructure Growth in the Northeast

Scindia pointed out the impressive infrastructure improvements in the region. For example, over 16,000 kilometers of national highways have been built, up from just 10,000 kilometers previously. He highlighted, “In 60 years, only 60% of this was built. In just 10 years, 60% more has been added.”

Moreover, railway expansion has accelerated significantly. The pace of building tracks has increased from 6.5 kilometers a month to over 19 kilometers. Scindia mentioned, “We’ve built 2,000 kilometers of railway tracks in the last 10 years.”

In addition to these developments, Scindia also highlighted the growth in civil aviation. The region now has 17 airports, up from just nine in the past. “Air traffic in the region has more than doubled since 2014, reaching 1,990 movements per week,” he noted.

Expanding Railways and Waterways

Furthermore, Scindia revealed that 19 railway projects, worth 88,000 crore rupees, are currently underway. The goal is to connect all states in the Northeast by rail within a few years. In terms of waterways, the region now boasts 20 transport routes, a significant increase from just one previously.

Semiconductor Factory and Investments

In a further boost to the region’s development, Scindia announced that the second semiconductor factory in India will be established in Assam. The Tata Group is investing 27,000 crore rupees in this project. He added that recent roadshows in Bengaluru, Chennai, and Mumbai have generated investments worth 45,000 crore rupees, reflecting growing interest in the Northeast.

Northeast as India’s Growth Engine

Scindia also emphasized the Northeast’s crucial role in driving India’s economic growth. He remarked, “The Northeast states are growing between 9.5% to 11% per year, while India’s overall growth is 6.5% to 7.5%.” This highlights the region’s transformation, which aligns with PM Modi’s vision. Scindia believes the region is already living up to its potential as India’s growth engine.

Vibrant Villages Initiative

In addition, Scindia spoke about the Prime Minister’s initiative to develop India’s last villages, particularly those along the borders. “The Prime Minister has renamed these areas as vibrant villages,” he said. Scindia also mentioned that ministers have made 700 visits to the Northeast, a testament to the government’s commitment to development. This initiative aims to ensure that even the most remote areas benefit from progress.

‘One Nation, One Election’ and PM Modi’s Legacy

Scindia discussed the ‘One Nation, One Election’ Bill, emphasizing that it is not just the government’s idea but one that reflects the wishes of the people. “It is the people’s hope to end frequent elections and reduce unnecessary spending,” he said. Moreover, Scindia praised PM Modi’s legacy, noting that initiatives like abolishing Article 370, implementing One Nation One Ration Card, and promoting women’s reservation in Parliament will have a lasting impact. He concluded, “The foundation being laid now will set an example for the whole world.”
