A private school bus on Tuesday morning on GT Road caught fire at Haryan’s Palwal. All the students on board were rescued safely by the locals.
As per bus driver Bhagat, the vehicle was parked on GT Road when smoke suddenly began to emerge, quickly turning into a ball fire.
The driver further added that the bus was carrying 8 to 10 Goyal School students at the time of the incident. There were no burn injuries to students due to the alertness of the locals. The school bags of students kept in the bus were damaged.
The fire brigade arrived late on the scene. The driver claimed that the fire brigade vehicle’s pressure was ineffective. They attempted to activate the water pressure but were unsuccessful.
A second vehicle was then requested by the fire brigade, but by the time it arrived, the bus’s flames had already spread to a nearby shoe shop. Outside the shop, a tarpaulin and signboard were also burnt.
Firefighters struggled to douse the fire due to electrocution from the electric wires passing in front of the shop.
A case has been registered near the city police station on the old GT road in Palwal.
