The Supreme Court, on Tuesday, scheduled January 11 for further hearings on AAP leader Satyendar Jain’s bail plea in a money laundering case. The Enforcement Directorate will commence its argument on the bail plea during the next hearing.
A bench comprising Justice Bela M Trivedi and Justice Pankaj Mithal listed the matter for January 11 after Jain’s counsel concluded their arguments. Meanwhile, Jain’s interim bail will remain extended until further orders in the money laundering case.
Senior Advocate Abhishek Manu Singhvi, representing Jain, advocated for the former minister’s bail, asserting that the allegations should not be sufficient to keep him in custody until the trial concludes. Singhvi guided the court through the case details against the former minister.
At the commencement of the hearing, the court observed the absence of Jain’s counsel. Justice Bela Trivedi warned that the interim bail would be canceled if no one appeared within five minutes. Jain’s defense counsel arrived promptly, averting the cancellation of interim bail.
During the hearing, the court inquired whether Jain’s counsel had filed any application for discharge or quashing in the predicate offense.
Jain’s lawyer informed the court that they had argued for discharge, but the probe agency moved an application stating they were still under further investigation.
Senior Advocate Singhvi presented the latest medical report and details of the surgery undergone by Jain. In a previous session, Singhvi informed the court that Jain had cooperated in the matter, emphasizing that no predicate offense had been established against the former minister.
