The Ministry of Home Affairs has appointed Satish Golcha, a senior IPS officer, as the new Commissioner of Delhi Police.

Golcha is from the 1992 batch of the IPS (AGMUT cadre). He was earlier serving as Director General (Prisons) in Delhi. He will now take charge as the head of the Delhi Police.

He replaces SBK Singh, who has been acting as commissioner since August 1.

Appointment After Attack on CM

This announcement came just a day after a major security incident. Delhi Chief Minister Rekha Gupta was attacked during a public meeting at her residence in Civil Lines.

The attacker, Rajeshbhai Khimjibhai Sakriya, a 41-year-old auto driver from Rajkot, entered by posing as a complainant. He was caught by Gupta’s security team, and a case of attempted murder has been filed against him.

Who is Satish Golcha?

Golcha has worked in many key roles in the Delhi Police, such as DCP, Joint Commissioner, and Special Commissioner.

He became well-known when he handled law and order during the 2020 Delhi riots.

He also served as the police chief of Arunachal Pradesh (Feb 2022–June 2023).

In May 2024, he was made head of Tihar Jail.

The Centre wants strong leadership in the Delhi Police after the attack on the CM. Golcha’s experience in handling difficult law-and-order situations makes him the right choice at this time.
