Shiv Sena (UBT) leader Sanjay Raut raised questions regarding the accountability of the Railway Minister following a stampede at Mumbai’s Bandra railway station on Sunday morning, which left nine passengers injured. Raut emphasized the frequency of railway accidents since the Prime Minister Modi-led government took office for its third term, alleging that more than 100 lives have been lost in over 25 major incidents during this period.
“Since Modi government has come into power for the third term and the railway minister has been given the responsibility again, more than 25 major railway accidents have occurred in the country, claiming more than 100 lives,” Raut stated during a press conference.
He also criticized Minister for Road Transport and Highways Nitin Gadkari, questioning the practicality of ambitious projects such as bullet trains and high-speed metros, while highlighting the lack of safety on the ground. “You talk about bullet trains, Metro, and high-speed trains, and Nitin Gadkari talks about running buses in the air. But what is the reality on the ground?” Raut remarked.
The stampede at Bandra station occurred on platform number 1, where a crowd gathered for the Bandra-Gorakhpur Express. Following the incident, the Brihanmumbai Municipal Corporation (BMC) reported that the injured passengers have been transported to a nearby hospital for treatment. Further details about the incident are awaited.
