Sandeshkhali Case: Supreme Court Upholds CBI Probe Order, Rejects West Bengal’s Plea

The Supreme Court dismisses West Bengal government’s appeal against Calcutta High Court’s decision to order a CBI probe into allegations of land grabbing and sexual assault in Sandeshkhali.

In Sandeshkhali, an island in Sundarbans, tensions have escalated amid allegations of sexual assault and land grabbing involving local Trinamool Congress leaders. Sheikh Shahjahan and his associates are at the heart of these accusations, which have sparked outrage in West Bengal, particularly among women in the village.

In February, a woman accused a Trinamool Congress leader of sexual assault at a nearby party office. Two days after she testified before a magistrate, her house was attacked in the dead of night.
