The Festival of Ideas, organised by ITV Network, is currently taking place in the nation’s capital on August 24 and 25, 2023. The conclave features prominent figures from various sectors of the country sharing their views with the public. Veteran Congress leader and former Foreign Minister, Salman Khurshid, took the stage to share his thoughts on coalition politics. Khurshid’s Take on Nepotism and Corruption
In response to Prime Minister Modi’s statements on nepotism and corruption, Khurshid commented, “There are at least 50 individuals within the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) who wield significant influence. Setting politics aside, which sector in India does not see the presence of nepotism? Whether it’s sports, cinema, or the media, nepotism is everywhere. The BJP brings up these topics unnecessarily. While corruption shouldn’t exist, the bigger question is how we eradicate it.”
On the topic of the Prime Minister’s image, Khurshid acknowledged that there’s no disagreement about the strengthened image of the PM. He stated, “The reasons for this strengthened image, both within and outside the country, can be debated. Today, we are promoting the G20, but who initiated this? Whose legacy is it? It’s one of India’s achievements that emerge from time to time. However, claiming it as a personal achievement is not accurate.”
The BJP has consistently stated that under its leadership, India’s global stature and the PM’s image have been elevated. Khurshid pointed out that discussing the cause of this elevated image is important, but also reminded the audience of the origins and legacies of such achievements.
