Safety boost: Delhi Police hosts self-defence for Zomato’s female fleet

In a bid to bolster the safety and confidence of women facing challenges, the Delhi Police organised a self-defence workshop specifically tailored for 40 female delivery partners from Zomato.

The event, officiated by Sh. Ajay Chaudhry, IPS, Special Commissioner of Police for the Special Police Unit for Women and Children (SPUWAC), aimed to equip women with essential skills to navigate adversity.
This initiative is part of the broader outreach by SPUWAC, a driving force behind training over 548,549 girls and women since its establishment in 2002. In the previous year alone, 65,139 individuals reaped the benefits of these empowering programmes.

The comprehensive training covered martial arts techniques and offered practical tips on using everyday items such as dupattas, pens, and handbags for self-defence, addressing concerns like antisocial attacks, chain snatching, and criminal assault.
The self-defence workshop aligns with the Delhi Police’s commitment to fostering a secure society where women can flourish without fear, which is particularly significant for Zomato’s female delivery fleet, which often works during unconventional hours.

The ceremony witnessed active participation from senior managers at Zomato and the Joint Commissioner of Police/SPUWAC, underscoring the collaborative partnership between law enforcement and the private sector in safeguarding the welfare of women. This joint effort reflects a shared commitment to creating a safer environment for women to navigate and thrive in their professional pursuits.
